August 1st, Saturday/ Another one bites the dust! David Ortiz, Big Poppy, has been popping the big pilly and got caught! OMG... What news! What? News? It's not news... It's nonsense! Who (should) really cares? I will tell you who should not care... The fans!
Why should the fans care about this? Sports talk radio talking heads should care because they need BS to spin! The families of and the athlete, him/herself, should care because it is their body they should be concerned about. But the fans... Oh hell no!
Fans pay to be entertained. When they see a big, strong, strapping athlete step up to the plate, or foul line, or goal line, they want excitement, results and fireworks to take place! I am paying for homeruns! Swing away "Big Poppy!" If you are gonna go down, go down in flames!
But, I am listening to fans on the radio and all I hear is whining and crying about how the game of baseball is being cheated. So what? There is enough cheating going around for everybody on both sides of the plate.
Get the hell over it fan... It is not about you and how you feel. It is about what you pay to see! You paid, you saw, "you're out of there!" Go home and make sure your wife or girlfriend is not "cheating" on you because you spent the last 6 hours of your life at the baseball field instead if being home, spending quality time with your wife, girlfriend, and kids. Remember, it's only a (reality) movie... It's only a (reality) movie!

March 4th, Wednesday/ A former friend and I had a conversation (argument) about Barry Bonds and Major League Baseball last summer. His position was that professional baseball would suffer if Bonds did not get to keep playing. My position was, and still is, that baseball did not give a rat's behind if Bonds played or not. I also said that he would not get another job in baseball as a player.
Now there is talk of Barry wanting back in because of the delay in his court judgement. So I'm thinking, why not let him back in? What did he do that is so terrible? Should there be concern that he took steroids, and if so, why should we care? So what if his head blows up like a hot air balloon? It's his head! So what if he broke the home run record while on steroids? Put the asterisk by his numbers and get on with it! Nobody's kid wants to be like Barry Bonds! Kids do what they want because they do what they want under whatever jurisdiction, or lack thereof, they are under.
When you are teaching your kids about what is good or bad for them, you do not need to cite anyone as an example for them to see to prove your point. You don't need to mention Charles Barkley when you talk to your kids about drunk driving. If you are so inclined to use Barry Bonds as the (bad) example for steroid use, take them to meet Mr. Bonds so they can actually see the size of his head. That might be a more effective way to prove your point. So what if he hit a lot of home runs? Your kid may not ever see a professionally pitched ball, steroids or no steroids! Unless Charles Barkley's arm is dangling from his car while wrapped around a pole, and your kids are on the scene to witness it, using him as an example is a moot point. Oh yes... And please stop badgering Alex Rodriguez for the truth about his steroid use. The point about steroids being bad will be better served when Alex's bones crumble to dust and his flesh serves as a dust bag! (By the way, the last time I checked, pro baseball was doing just fine without Barry Bonds! So there!)

February 19th, Thursday/ Alex "Roid" Rigues. This guy is funny. Aside from what he has said that is a lie or not a lie or whatever, there is one thing he said that has flown over the heads of everybody listening. If there are parents that want to make a statement to their kids about how to live life in this society, here is the statement they should be making: In light of all the technology and general access to information, there is no longer a reason to think that it is acceptable to be young and stupid! Rodrigues said that he was "young and stupid" several times in his defense for what he did. I don't know... Maybe I'm stupid but I'm thinking that if I signed a "lottery money" contract with a pro team, I would think that I would be able to afford whatever technology that would keep me in the know. Alex said that he did not know what he was taking at one point, then said he knew and named what he did take.Sure I think he is lying but I have to get back to the lesson that should be taught here. You cannot be young AND stupid anymore. Is is now, officially, an oxymoron! You can either be young or stupid but you cannot be both! There are too many ways to educate yourself these days that negate the possibility to be young and stupid!
That being said, Rodrigues has planted something in my brain that I cannot get out. I would love to receive millions of dollars by any means necessary but I am now fearful of the results after receiving said money. My fear is that I will become "stupid!" Here is what I think. I think that Rodrigues was a fairly bright guy before he signed for the big money. Then, after he got it, he lost his moral mind and became stupid. I mean, look at all of what has happened to him since becoming a mega millionaire. He is exposed as a steroid user. He lost his beautiful wife and family. He does not seem to be a very endearing guy to his teammates and... and, he is linked to Madonna! Damn! Of all the women in the world to be linked to, he is linked to Madonna! All I have to say is if I were linked to any woman, I would at least want to be linked to a woman that I would want to ride in the same helicopter with when on a date. That's another reason why it is not attractive to be young and stupid. Young and stupid turns into old and stupid at some point if preventive measures are not taken.
So, get educated young people. Remember "...a mind is a terrible thing to waste" and "youth is wasted on the young" and stupid!
