A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

March 19th, Monday... So I'm flipping channels and I stumble on a show called the Shahs of Sunset. What the...? How do Iranians flee their country, come to America and get their own show? I'm just saying... Bravo has cornered the market on stupidity!
What kills me is how an ethnic group can come here and NOT live in a ghetto! The promo said that great riches were left behind and I'm watching these people flying in private jets and drinking Chrystal! (That's expensive shit!) And how does a 2 bit Persian Princess with the hip-hop mouth get a stylist?
But, I have to admit to getting stuck to the show. Bad behavior and disrespect is an attraction for me. Throw in sex and we're talking Emmy nomination!
I'm also digging the tattoo shows! Body art... It is not me (If I liked needles I would have aspired to be a junkie!) but I love looking at it. I'm into art and artists... So what if the canvas is a human being? ( How cool would it have been if Dali did the Persistence of Memory on Gala's ass?)
I have an idea for a reality show for radio but I won't reveal the context or title for fear that someone might steal it. I'm gonna do it myself and revolutionize radio! "Look Ma, I'm on top of the world!"

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

January 27th, Friday... So I'm flipping channels and I stumble up a show that I do not watch: It's A Brad, Brad World, which is a show about a homosexual fashion dude. I'm watching this guy talk about his childhood, while crying. He is unshaven, hair a mess. He has on fashionable sun glasses and he is going on about how he and his father never got along and I am wondering, what is the perception of a black heterosexual male these days?
Last time I checked, I have an idea of what the white heterosexual male looks like. He is Tim Taylor (Tim Allen) who worships tools and grunts like the Neanderthal man. Are black men now represented by the "rapper" image. You know, hardcore, educated by the street in the hood, life expectancy to 25 years old? (Talk about an endangered species!) Stereotypes abound, I am talking about perceptions. Now-a-days it seems like TV is the portal to the world for most in America. What you see, is! Network TV, news included, is stupid! Cable TV puts it out there! The bad part is the more cash involved, the more idiotic the scenarios. "Reality" TV shows really show to what length people will act (up). Needless to say, black women do not fair well in this genre. Dressed up, weaved up, made up women dating no account men, driving expensive cars and throwing drinks at each other during a stupid argument has the ancestors twisting in their graves like a crocodile performing the death roll!
As outragious as it looks, I wonder what the future holds?

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

January 12th, Thursday... Yeah, I know... It's been a couple of days but I've been busy discovering my inner christian! Man, I've hatin' on people for no good reason! For instance, I'm Black but I dig Lady Gaga! So what if she's Madonna via CHER... I dig the fact that she has the kahunas to do what she's doing! She's famous and paid! And we know that in America, it's about being paid!
And, so what if the Kardashians are stupid! They're famous and paid! So what if the Republicans are assholes? They're famous and paid! (See if you can get a gig where you can get dumb ass people to give you millions in campaign funds to hear you spew stupid racist and bigoted comments!) And so what if idiotic unknown folks have reality shows. Now they're (in)famous and paid!
I'm done hatin' on people. The people I used to like and thought were my friends I'm not feelin' anymore. Besides, they're broke and not famous! Fuck them! "Well..."

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

September 26th, Monday... So I'm sitting here, flipping channels and I come across the Basketball Wives LA show. While watching, I am asking myself, "Why do Black women allow themselves to be psychologically prostituted on TV?" What the fuck is that? I mean, does a "reality show" have a script? And, if so, why do they say stupid shit? Who writes the dialogue? Why are the "red bones" former strippers? What is the deal with having a violent fight in boxing gear? (That has got to be some male fantasy thing!) Why are the LA BBW's not adhering to the cry of Rodney King? "Why can't we all just get along?"
Anyone who defends the media and entertainment business by saying that kids are not influenced by the perpetration of bullshit is way beyond me! What is it with the anger management piece? Why be so angry? Why is it when a woman has baggage, the bag is a designer bag? Where do these women work? Do they work? Where can I meet this type of woman?
Shit, I just exercised my option and changed the channel... I'm now watching the Kardashians!

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

July 12th, Sunday/ I was flipping channels and I stumbled upon MTV. MTV, BET... I don't make it a habit to watch t.v. channels that are initials but I heard something that got my attention and gave me an idea. P. Diddy... Uhh, Puff Daddy... Uhh, Puff Diddy... Umm, P. Daddy... Whatever his name is is coming out with a new show called "Making His Band!" When I heard that I got to thinking, whatever happened to all of the other bands and groups that appeared on his shows? Do they still exist? Are they making music? Are they making any money??? What's up with that?
And then it hit me... I want to produce a show that, in the title itself, would not leave the viewing audience in a fog about where the participants are and how they are doing. The title would say it all!
Since reality shows are a bunch of bullshit, I want to parody them by producing a show called, "Making WHAT Band?" The twist to the show is that there is no band to make! The contestants are there under the guise of making a band. The deal is they just wasted their time! There is no band. There is no future in producing CD's... There will be no tours...No one will know the band's name! There is no band!!! Those who was down with the program, after it is over, is no longer down! You just go home... Your services are no longer needed... No one will contact you about doing a wrap-up show. Stick a fork in your ass, you're done! Wouldn't that be funny?
No, not the show! You sticking a fork in your ass is what's funny! I mean, every time I turn around, there is some show interviewing some fake ass "reality star(?)" who is talking about how much they are now recognized because they were on television... Hell, they did not do a damn thing! How stupid is that? So, why not admit that the show is going to be stupid from jump-street? What? You don't get the premise of my idea? How stupid are you?

CRAP/My Journal by Al Brathway

September 27th, Thursday/ I was watching ("should not watch") tv today and I saw a program about rock star daughters and how their lives unfolded being the daughter(s)and son(s) of rock royality. The drugs, the groupies, the road trips, the shows, the sex...! Oh the agony! Then there are the problems that existed because of this lifestyle. The neglect, the tears, the conflicts...! They also talked about the REAL problems; the mansions, the parties, the language, the antics... AND THE DAMN MONEY!!! / Having lived most of my life in relative poverty and looking back on it, given the chance, I would have traded my pitiful life for the rock star life in a (hot) damn heartbeat! Poverty sucks! And, it brings on a set of problems that makes the other lifestyle look like paradise! Hell, my father wasn't around and I was poor... That's like double jeopardy. At least the money would have served as a surrogate. I could have, at least, bought a father! Plus, I would have had a segway into show business instead of this "go to an interview and get your ass rejected because you don't fit their criteria bullshit!" Why would I care if I get hired because of nepotism? Nepotism trumps "qualified" anyday from where I'm standing! AND THE PERKS...!/ Crap!

CRAP/ My Journal by Al Brathway

July 6th, Friday/ I was watching the new Paula Abdul Show w/ a friend yesterday and we got to talking about what would make great reality TV? Paula's show seems to be staged because she acts so goofy (unless she really is on drugs, which I think she is!). However, we decided that Bobby Brown would post a GREAT reality show now that he is separated from Whitney. That other show he did was "aw'ight" but now is the time to let the cameras roll! Find him, sign him and let the shit begin! I like watching "train wrecks" man! It distracts me from the train wreck that is my life and I'm able to suspend my disbelief. I don't know why I find so much comfort in someone else's misery. Does that make me normal? Or, do I explore the sadistic dark side to my personality that way? Whatever the case, find Bobby Brown and get his ass back on the TV set. Bravo, you're fucking up w/ this Paula Abdul chick. (You know you are because she only got a half hour show!) Free Bobby Brown!/ CRAP!
