A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

February 7th, Tuesday... Now that the Super Bowl is over and the Giants beat the almighty NE Patriots, I'm gonna dis-spell a myth. Eli Manning did not beat Tom Brady! Every time I hear a comment about how the quarterbacks compete against each other, I wonder about how many rabid football fans swallow that bull...? In football, offenses play against defenses. Offensive lines have to prevent the defense from getting to the quarterback so that he can operate. Tom Brady never blocked anyone in his professional football life! Eli Manning never had to evade a quarterback's advance to be effective!
The only comparison(s) that can be made between quarterbacks is through statistics and statistics are for freaks who get off on that stuff! I mean, who really cares about which quarterback is going into the Hall of Fame? They're both going in! (Just maybe not at the same time!)
The Giants are better than the Patriots, now. In a couple of years, the whole thing will flip and the Patriots will be better. That's how professional football goes. The Tom Brady's and Eli Manning's will get old and new quarterbacks will replace them. New teams will develop and the past will be remembered fondly and comparisons will abound. And for what? Freaked out statistics geeks will rise again! (Almost like Jesus! Whoa...)

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

April 8th, Wednesday/ Well... This is a sad day for me. It should be a glorious day but it's not, for me. After watching that sad excuse for a final game in the NCAA Elite tournament Monday night, I slept on it then started to recover on Tuesday. I turned on ESPN and watched them scroll through the sports events... And then I saw it! They showed the press conference for MJ (Michael Jordan) being interviewed about his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. We are talking about, arguably, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a person for his/her respective sport. So, here he is being interviewed and he says the strangest thing...
MJ is tortured and conflicted and depressed about being inducted into the H of F because it represents his life being over as it pertains to basketball! I could not believe what I was hearing. C'mon Mike! Are you serious?
So I got to thinking... When is it enough? What has to happen for it to be over for someone doing what they like to do, to be satisfied with not doing it anymore? He was actually lamenting his own career because he could no longer "deceive" us common folk who watched and applauded him. He wants more.!
Okay, whatever floats your boat. Here is a suggestion: Arrange pickup games with all of those ex pros who would still like to play. Get the media and Madison Avenue involved to promote the event and find a venue to accommodate the thousands of fans he still thinks he has. Then, have at it! Regardless of the results, I'm sure MJ's ego will be fulfilled. Then, maybe, he can make the "Overtime H of F" and be satisfied with that! I am sure he will get inducted.

A Warped POV by A. Dacosta Brathway

Friday, July 25th... I just read an article about Nancy Lieberman, the 50 year old Hall of Famer, who was signed to a seven game contract with the Detroit Shock in the WNBA. This transaction is the result of the big brawl that took place the other night when players were fined and suspended. Okay, I get that. The Shock needed a player, she was available, it makes a good story... whatever. What I don't get is what is the big deal about her throwing 2 stinking assists (okay one was a "no look" pass!)in a loss? I mean there was a big ass article about her! I wonder what would have been said if the Shock won the game? They lost the game! They lost! I could see if the no look pass was thrown as time was running out and the game was won at the buzzer! I could get with that... But they lost! Or, it would have been a big deal if she was a leg amputee and had a prothesis and threw a no look pass to win the game at the buzzer. Or, what if she had no arms and threw the pass? Or, what if she could telepathically throw passes, or, swallow a basketball and shoot it out of her ass for a pass to win the game at the buzzer? Now that would be a big deal!
